| Abstract | O artigo tem por objetivo discutir a organização de uma rede de assistência às mulheres, sobretudo às pobres, negras, imigrantes e operárias, no espaço urbano, observando como a ideia de modernização da cidade se articulou à criação de espaços hospitalares femininos. A relação entre assistência à saúde das mulheres a partir da construção de maternidades de caráter público, mas de iniciativa privada, a urbanização e a participação do Estado será mediada pelos saberes e ações que circulavam entre médicos/as, urbanistas, filantropos/as, intelectuais e gestores públicos. Abstract: This article aims to discuss the organization of a support network for women, especially poor, black, immigrant and working women, in urban space. It will focus on how the idea of modernization of the city has been articulated with the creation of feminine hospital spaces. How urbanization and state involvement relates to women's health care, beginning with the construction of privately financed public maternity wards, is mediated by knowledge and actions that have circulated among physicians, philanthropists, intellectuals and public officials. | en_US |
