Waterford National Historic Landmark District Oral History Project

Permanent URI for this collection

This project was undertaken by the Center for Historic Architecture and Design at the University of Delaware, on behalf of the National Park Service’s National Capital Area National Historic Landmarks Program, to record oral histories related to twentieth century historic preservation efforts in Waterford, Virginia. Six informants, all directly associated with the preservation of Waterford's National Historic Landmark district, shared previously unrecorded details and recollections about strategies used to preserve both the village core and its rural surroundings, as well as the significance of their successes. These findings were incorporated into the amended Waterford National Historic Landmark district nomination, produced simultaneously with this oral history project.
