DescriptionNew Austrian organizations a curious development; puzzled as to why government permitted their formation, but Chancellor has situation under control; Austro-German trade negotiations close without definite results; significant that Austrian Government has not responded to German pressure; calls attention to article in London Times of Jan. 21 on address made in Cologne by [Christian August] von Hassell; doesn't know von Hassell personally, but doesn't trust him; he is nephew of [Alfred] von Tirpitz and is reported to have great admiration for him; had note from [Rudolf] Emil] Schoenfeld in Stockholm reporting he is comfortably settled; knows Dunn will miss him in Department, but Joseph Flack a capable successor; attended small party recently given by British Minister for Duke of Windsor; Duke seems in good form and good spirits; had long talk with him and gathered he plans to remain in Austria for several months; saw Countess [Guy de] Baillet-Latour [nee Marianna Dunn] at party; she said she was shortly returning to Belgium as she expected Mrs. Dunn to arrive for the birth of her daughter's child; she thought Dunn might come too; invites Dunn and Mrs. Dunn to come on to Vienna for visit.en_US
