DescriptionThis is a theoretical project that highlights the potential benefits that could be experienced by a neighborhood historically affected by racially discriminatory public funding and disinvestment. The legacy of racism has resulted in the current conditions in Strawberry Mansion, rendering the community particularly susceptible to the urban heat island effect. By leveraging the collective efforts of the City of Philadelphia, business owners, home owners, land owners, and volunteer groups to assist this community in self-investment and transforming it into an Urban Oasis, these advantages can be replicated in other marginalized neighborhoods for theimprovement of health and well-being.
