Abstract
Description
This project will explore place-based planning strategies and land management typologies along the Route 40 corridor in Salem County, New Jersey. The strategies proposed will aim to engage both local residents and visitors traveling through the county by proposing 1) gathering spaces to stay, stop, and share ideas and experiences, 2) connective, travel spaces to actively engage with the agricultural landscape and communities, and 3) more sustainable agricultural and energy land-use strategies by highlighting practices, resources, and tools for farmers and related caretakers of the land to responsibly manage the Salem County landscape. • The landscapes and strategies proposed in this project will engage both tourists and locals in shared spaces within the agricultural landscape of Salem County through recreation, tourism, agriculture, and the arts. • This proposal will tell the story of the historic architecture, industry, and culture of Salem County, but will continue that story in a forward-thinking manner that brings Salem County into a more sustainable rural future.
