Abstract
Description
A clergyman, soldier, editor, and writer, Higginson served as a colonel during the Civil War and commanded a regiment of African American soldiers, an experience he describes in his book, Army Life in a Black Regiment (1870). Higginson was also dedicated to furthering women's rights, an issue he detailed in his volume Common Sense About Women (1881).
