Description | Information from reliable sources indicate Spanish Republicans in Mexico pleased Ambassador [Constantine] Oumansky out of the American picture though some mourn his death; was informed today two officers from Foreign Office were among first to reach crash scene and found Oumansky's brief case close by his body; in case was between 150,000 and 200,000 dollars in U.S. 1000 dollar bills; they turned case over to official of Soviet Embassy who removed the money and threw other papers into the still burning wreckage of plane; one might speculate as to Oumansky's purpose in carrying so much cash for a brief trip to Costa Rica; may have been to suborn government officials or labor leaders in Costa Rica. | en_US |
