Tense situation in Cuba over; Batista's stature increased tremendously as result of strong position he took; it took great courage for him to go to Camp Columbia Monday evening not knowing whether he had support of Army or not; although his position is stronger, the shock remains, and may have good effects; people who replace Pedraza, Garcia, and Navy Chief will be no better, but at least they start out with clipped wings and they know people are tired of the Army running the country; called on Batista yesterday evening and congratulated him on fact that not one drop of blood had been shed; several matters pending on defense cooperation; proposed bills authorizing sugar arrangement being sent air mail to Department today; hopes they will get prompt approval so that they may be rushed through Congress which is now meeting.
