DescriptionAcknowledges Department's telegram regarding Swedish firm Bofors negotiations with Argentine Government for setting up arms plant in Argentina; has no knowledge of such negotiations and doubts Argentina would consider it now; knows Argentina's lack of modern military equipment and knows Bofors as well as other European firms would like to sell arms to Argentina, but Perón and Ministers of War, Marines, Aeronautics, and Communications have agreed Argentina will buy arms only from U.S.; they are looking toward defense pact and standardization of all American military equipment; unless defense pact is negotiated soon however, situation may change; Argentina determined to arm herself with modern equipment, and if she doesn't get it from U.S. she, and other Latin American countries, will get it elsewhere; will keep Department informed of developments.en_US
