Abstract
Description
Original in Sypherd Papers. Shall add codicil to will providing for disposition of papers and shall so draft it that University will have liberty to use papers as it sees fit; hopes to live long enough to do something with papers himself, but when one is over 70 anything can happen; can understand why Sypherd prefers not to travel; now that it is no longer necessary to travel for Company, prefers to stay at home himself; Marion [Mrs. Messersmith] is quite well; does not look her age and in spirit is young as ever, an extraordinary woman; having trouble with ulcer again and planning to fly to Boston on Jan. 10 for checkup; if necessary, will remain in hospital for awhile and Marion will come up by train; had planned to spend about six weeks in north in late spring; was interested to hear Sypherd had finished his book, "Curses Loud and Deep"; realizes printing costs have gone up and scholarly and professional books, no matter what their worth have small sale; would like to know what printing costs would be for edition of 3,000 copies; perhaps someone could be found who would be willing to finance book; is really interested and may be able to help if idea appeals to Sypherd; is also interested in articles Sypherd is writing on horses of St. Mark; if he has difficulty placing articles would like to be informed; doesn't have the connections once enjoyed but still have friends who may be useful; if plans are unchanged will see Sypherd and other Newark friends some time in the spring.
