Description
Minister of Defense, [Domingo] Ramos called and reported quarrel between Batista and head of Army [Jose] Pedraza; immediate cause of quarrel was dismissal by Batista of [Bernardo] Garcia, Chief of Police and friend of Pedraza,without consulting Pedraza; Pedraza has Army, Navy, and police on his side and might if he chooses force Batista to leave country and take over the Government; fears revolution; Pedraza usually the calmer and sounder of the two; hopes he can be brought to see reason; Ramos to see him today; offered to meet with Batista and Pedraza if they wish and try to help them compose their difficulties, since maintenance of tranquil situation in Cuba of importance to U.S.
