DescriptionGives observations on General [Lazaro] Cárdenas, ex-President of Mexico; it was wish of President Avila Camacho that Messersmith see as much of Cárdenas as possible, hoping by close contact Cárdenas would assume a less unfriendly attitude to U.S; Messersmith had lunch with Cárdenas at his home in Cuernavaca and had long conversation, but though Cárdenas received him courteously, made little impression; Cárdenas extremely nationalistic and antagonistic toward everything foreign; doubts that he was pro-Nazi, but thinks he wouldn't have objected to U.S. defeat.en_US
