Comments on golf game with President [Manuel] Avila Camacho; Messersmith with Mrs. Messersmith a few weeks after arrival in Mexico was invited to lunch with President at his home in Cuernavaca; played golf before lunch on President's private course; also playing were Foreign Minister [Ezequiel] Padilla and Minister of Interior [Miguel] Alemán; Messersmith was no golfer but hoped he would not make too bad a showing; asked Padilla if there were score cards; Padilla pointed to caddies and said "There are our score cards"; Messersmith found the other players about on par with him; nobody paid attention to the score until the last hole when President turned to one of the caddies and asked him the score; he said, "The President, 76, Messersmith, 77, Padilla, 78, and Alemán, 79"; score was obviously kept on basis of relative rank; decided it was a pleasant way of having a game of golf and keeping the score.
