Abstract
Description
[Vicente] Lombardo Toledano made statement to press in which he says repercussions from his speech [accusing U.S. firms of shipping contraband arms to Mexico] he considers great personal achievement, and the categoric declaration of U.S. puts an end to propaganda put out by [Ezequiel] Padilla that he has the support of U.S. in his candidacy for President; called at Foreign Office and talked with Undersecretary [Manuel] Tello; told him U.S. would prefer to take no notice of Lombardo Toledano's irresponsible statements, but might be forced to when he starts speaking for the U.S. Government; told Tello U.S. has made no "categoric declaration" regarding political situation in Mexico, and would never interfere in elections in other countries; believes statement from Mexican Government repudiating Lombardo Toledano's allegations will be forthcoming; Department may consider issuing statement also.
