Messersmith, George S. (George Strausser), 1883-1960.2011-06-152011-06-151945-08-291725-00http://udspace.udel.edu/handle/19716/7690Received with pleasure Carol's letter of Aug. 12; interested to hear Carol going to Lisbon and from there to France; sorry to learn Mme. Lupescu's health not improved; has had little news from Rumania, but glad to see recent action of King Michael who is obviously not satisfied with type of election being planned; neither U.S. nor Great Britain would recognize results of any election which does not express will of people; peace and order indivisible; there must be no intervention in internal affairs of China by an outside power, whether one likes what happens there or not; operation in May successful; feeling much better; planning to be in Washington for week or ten days in September for conferences with President Truman and new Secretary of State [James F.] Byrnes; sending this letter care of U.S. Embassy in Lisbon with request that it be delivered to Carol and copy to Embassy in Rio in case Carol still there; will tell Mrs. Mustard [Mrs. Messersmith's mother] Carol inquired about her; affectionate regards to Carol and Mme. Lupescu, to whom Mrs. Messersmith will be writing.Typed Letter Copy, 5 p.en-USMessersmith, George S. (George Strausser), 1883-1960.Messersmith, G.S., Mexico City.
