This focus allows us to address the relationship between institutionalized and collective behavior, suggesting limitations of the "extra-institutionall' model of collective behavior. Social contagion approaches to collective behavior, focusing on its extrainstitutional quality, suggest that these forms of behavior represent distinct departures from nstitutionalized behavior. In contrast, more recent collective behavior scholarship, for example the emergent norm and emergent social structure approaches, characterize collective and institutionalized behavior as continuous.1060612 bytesapplication/pdfen-USgender rolescrowdscollective behaviorAn Examination of Gender Roles in CrowdsOther
