This focus allows us to address the relationship between institutionalized and collective behavior, suggesting limitations of the "extra-institutionall' model of collective behavior. Social contagion approaches to collective behavior, focusing on its extrainstitutional quality, suggest that these forms of behavior represent distinct departures from nstitutionalized behavior.
