A relação entre assistência à saúde das mulheres a partir da construção de maternidades de caráter público, mas de iniciativa privada, a urbanização e a participação do Estado será mediada pelos saberes e ações que circulavam entre médicos/as, urbanistas, filantropos/as, intelectuais e gestores públicos. Abstract: This article aims to discuss the organization of a support network for women, especially poor, black, immigrant and working women, in urban space. It will focus on how the idea of modernization of the city has been articulated with the creation of feminine hospital spaces.
