Abstract
Description
dinner at Mexico City Country Club. Appreciates opportunity of meeting so many of American colony so soon after arrival in Mexico; looks forward to association with members of the Colony as well as with Mexican people; every American who lives abroad is, in a measure, a representative of the American Government and the American people, as people in other countries will judge all Americans and American institutions by the conduct of American visitors among them; assures members they have responsibility of interpreting to Mexican people whose hospitality they enjoy the best traditions of U.S.; essential at all times, but especially in war time when free people are fighting to maintain their freedom, that unity of American republics be preserved; instead of trying to place blame for war upon others, should realize that Americans too in their isolation, have been complacent in allowing present situation to develop, and concentrate on how one can best contribute to victory.
