This project reimagines Northeast Wilmington’s industrial Brandywine Creek floodplain as a resilient public landscape that works with water rather than against it. Shaped by historic industrial impacts and ongoing flood risks, the project explores a central research question: How can landform replace traditional flood walls while creating a resilient, public, and non-displacing landscape in Northeast Wilmington, Delaware? To address these environmental and community needs, this landscape architecture proposal utilizes landform-based, nature-based approaches to reduce vulnerability while restoring ecological function. The design reframes climate resilience as both environmental infrastructure and vital civic space. Ultimately, the project achieves three core goals: protecting vulnerable urban areas through landform-based flood strategies, restoring degraded shoreline and tidal habitats, and activating a safe, pedestrian-centered, multigenerational public space. By balancing these ecological interventions with community needs, the proposal reframes resilience to support everyday public use and long-term community stability without displacement.
