Abstract

Porphyrins constitute a class of molecules prolific in nature and have attracted the interest of researchers for decades due to their unique roles in biological systems and their propensity towards complex electrochemical and photochemical processes. This study explores the synthetic derivatization of a novel class of porphyrinoid, the dimethylisocorrole, for applications relevant to oxygen reduction and photodynamic therapy. A precursor to a potential cofacial binuclear dimethylisocorrole oxygen reduction was developed, and the functionalization of a broadly absorbing singlet oxygen (1O2) photosensitizer through palladium-catalyzed cross coupling reactions was explored.
