Abstract

Description

Still concerned by Wright's letter of Feb. 8 and what he said about American press; reassures Wright that press is not Jewish controlled; only two Jewish owned papers which seem to be taking wrong attitude are New York Evening Post and Philadelphia Inquirer; U.S. foreign correspondents best in the world, and news in American press objective and complete; whatever restraints are shown, they are privately and not government imposed; Senators who have recently opposed U.S. foreign policy playing personal politics; Senator [Warren R.] Austin delivered well-deserved rebuke to some of his colleagues with good effect; nothing to be done about man like [Gerald P.] Nye who makes foolish statements and takes strange attitudes merely to keep himself in public eye; some U.S. business people more concerned with private interest than with public interest; any hope that by playing with Germany, American interests there can be conserved is futile; same is true in Spain as long as German and Italian influence is there; believes crisis this year cannot be averted.
