DescriptionAcknowledges letter of Oct. 23; is glad Pfeiffer has established contact with Raymond; Geist ideal person to carry on contact between Department and such organizations as National Council of American Importers, Foreign Trade Council, etc.; read with interest Pfeiffer's analysis of problems; many good business men do not understand how outside pressures can affect internal economy; agrees with Pfeiffer that totalitarian and free economies cannot survive together; if Germany is victorious impossible for U.S. to make any kind of arrangement with her; she must not be permitted to win; U.S. must give all possible aid and comfort to Great Britain, and if that isn't enough enter the struggle without delay before Germany can use the tremendous production machinery of all Europe; does not share Pfeiffer's optimism that even with totalitarian victory normal international trade methods might again be used.en_US
