Abstract

Description

Discovered by accident and deciphered code used by German agents in America during World War I; code was contained in seemingly innocent insurance policies which easily passed censors; forwarded documents in question to Washington along with translation; learned later that some 60 leading German agents in U.S. had been arrested and interned, but didn't know until war was over that the code deciphered in Curaçao was the means by which the agents were discovered and detained.
