Thanks Geist for letter of Jan. 4; his analysis of situation helpful; Secretary [Cordell Hull] and Mr. [Sumner] Welles read letter and found it very interesting; thinking of sending it to President; gets no comfort from Hitler's speech; should be no more giving in; if war must come, better to have it now than later.
