Abstract

Description

Enclosed with No. 796. Politis called and said he had talked to Gedye, explaining why mail was opened, and that he was ignoring the threat implied in the letter; their conversation ended amicably; Gedye called today and was told that he had made a serious tactical error in writing such a letter to the Chief of Mission of a foreign government and that his superiors in New York would not approve; Gedye did not admit his error, but turned the discussion to other matters; Gedye a good correspondent and on the whole a man of good principles, but is lacking in tact.
