DescriptionPleased Geist in charge of new Division and confident he will do good job; experience gained will be valuable to Geist when he returns to field; is sure that with Geist's skill and understanding Department will establish good relations with Commerce, Agriculture, and other Departments; suggests Geist cultivate personally [Edward J.] Noble, [James W.] Young, and [Grosvenor M.] Jones of Commerce and Warren [Lee] Pierson of Export-Import Bank; by personal contact, Geist can eradicate suspicion and distrust which still exist; happy to hear of Geist's speaking engagements; extremely useful to bring Departmental people in contact with the business men; glad of sale of planes to Allies, but U.S. must go further; German move into Scandinavia-strengthens her in production of iron and steel; next move may be into Rumania for oil; indications Mussolini may join up with Germany after all; in spite of opposition of Italian people; he could cause trouble in Mediterranean; still believes Germany not capable of sustained war effort; would be to advantage of U.S. to help Allies now in every way possible; working against tremendous odds in Cuba, and has not made much progress yet, but is not discouraged; comfortably settled in home; wife's knee somewhat improved; happy in new surroundings but misses friends in Washington; hopes Geist and sister can come for visit.en_US
