Abstract
This dissertation includes two essays on education Ghana. One of the papers examined the effect of free primary education policy on the incidence and hours of child labor in Ghana. This study shows that FPE reduces probability of child labor, and the hours worked by children in formal work. The second paper analyzes the contribution of highly educated temporary teachers to students’ achievement. The findings show that students’ test scores are positively affected by having National Service teachers at their school.
