Received clippings from several friends of article by Miss Newhall in San Francisco Chronicle; article refers to Messersmith as being "impatient with the Latins"; usually pays no attention to adverse personal criticism by press, but curious as to why such a statement was made; does not recall meeting Miss Newhall in Mexico City; possibly Miss Newhall based her judgment on attitude taken by Messersmith in a press conference, when a Japanese, carrying an Argentine passport, and representing some second rate Argentine newspaper, began to heckle Secretary [Stettinius] in an improper way; Latin correspondents, themselves, so resented his behavior that they saw to it he didn't attend another press conference.en_US
