Abstract
This dissertation sought to investigate the impact of romantic partners’ use of television media in various contexts on their relationship satisfaction, quality, and maintenance. Though television media use among romantic partners as an act of relationship maintenance is not a new phenomenon, this dissertation aimed to determine if the method of television consumption (binge watching or episodic, traditional watching) and/or context of the viewing event (alone or together with a partner) was relevant on the relationship outcomes of relationship satisfaction, quality, and maintenance. A 2x2 survey design (including both close-ended and open-ended questions) was implemented to investigate these potential relationships. The survey’s findings and limitations are discussed as well as potential avenues for future research in this area of study. ☐ Keywords: binge watching, traditional watching, relationship maintenance, relationship quality, relationship satisfaction
