AbstractThe book of poetry entitled Blanco, written by Octavio Paz during his trip to India in the 60s represents a union of poetic traditions, most of them from Eastern Cultures. As a result, Blanco represents the reconstruction of the Paz tradition by incorporating a new sphere of influence that contextualizes his subsequent work. ☐ This thesis focuses on the aesthetic origins of Blanco, based on the synthesis of his version of the oriental tradition (specifically the Hindu tradition) and the Western tradition from which his prior work originates. Los hijos de limo represents Paz’s own critical perspective on the tradition that gave rise to this prior work and it established theoretical closure to what Paz refers to as Modernidad poética (Modern Poetry) from which the aesthetics of the Mexican Novel is derived. ☐ The current analysis of Paz’s work has been made possible by access to the reproduction of Blanco’s first edition which incorporates letters and special essays available during the years in which Blanco was first released. These documents have made possible this extended analysis of Blanco.en_US
