Abstract

Description

Relates incident of abortive revolution in Cuba [in Feb. 1941]; head of Army leader of revolt; Batista virtual prisoner in Palace, but went in evening and spoke directly to troops; Batista notified Messersmith that all was under control, that leaders of revolt were under arrest, and that not one drop of blood was shed; he asked Messersmith to arrange air transportation to Miami for those under arrest; he might easily have had these army officers shot and other people behind them; like many men in his position he has been in many ways misrepresented.
