Acknowledges letter; delighted that she could get away from Berlin; believes there must be a crisis before Europe can start on the way to health; National Socialism cannot change, and must stand until it falls as a whole; thinks danger of war less, for even the Nazi leaders realize war could lead only to catastrophe; approved [Anthony] Eden's recent strong speech showing England's stand; French position also strong; Spain still a trouble spot as is Southeastern Europe; Mussolini's Milan speech destroyed possibility of success at Vienna Conference on Nov. 11; still sees no definite Berlin-Rome cooperation, but does see blackmail on France and England; in Austria the situation holds; delighted over elections in U.S.; intimates that certain plans are being made for him in a new post.
