| Description | Chaired by Saulsbury, the Special Bureau was an agency of the Democratic National Committee in New York responsible for mobilizing the ethnic vote, particularly through its Western Department at the Democratic National Headquarters in Chicago. The ethnic groups specifically named are (in New York) Jewish, Polish, Syrian, Welsh, Greek, Spanish, Hungarian, German, French, and Italian voters; and (in Chicago) Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Slovak, Ruthenian, Bohemian, and Croatian voters. There were also special divisions for "Labour" and "Negroes." Correspondence between the New York and Chicago offices, figures on ethnic populations, budgets for expenditures for each group, and a speech by Saulsbury about the Bureau. | |
