Abstract
This series of three studies seeks to broaden our understanding of psychosocial processes and the important role they can play in treatment outcomes among people who are in recovery from opioid use disorders. At both a state and local level, an increasing number of people and their families are experiencing the challenges of the opioid epidemic. However, despite the prevalence of opioid use, less is known about the important psychosocial processes involved in treatment and how people can navigate stigmatizing experiences in order to garner the vital social support necessary to establish successful opioid use disorder recovery. Through secondary analysis of mixed methods data assessing the experiences of people in treatment for opioid use disorders, the following three studies will explore selected psychosocial processes and treatment outcomes among people who are in recovery from opioid use disorder. Furthermore, strategies will be presented that can help to inform future intervention efforts aimed at enhancing social support networks and facilitating stable recovery for those in opioid use disorder treatment.
