Abstract

The State of Delaware and its largest city, Wilmington, lie on the western side of the Delaware River in what is the Middle Atlantic area of the United States. The Ninth Ward was a political subdivision of Wilmington from 1869 to 1969 and was the largest in size and population of all wards in Wilmington. After 1969, the city adopted different political district boundaries, which broke up the ward system. This thesis describes the history and some of the people of the Ninth Ward during those 100 years.
