Was astounded to learn from Philip [Bonsal] when he came to Mexico that some thought in Department being given to discontinue membership in Joint Mexican-U.S. Commission for Economic Cooperation; this Commission one of the concrete outgrowths of visit between President Roosevelt and President Avila Camacho a year ago; Commission performing useful service; those who fear development of Mexican industry as menace to U.S. markets are very shortsighted; asks Duggan to talk to Secretary; going to San Jose de Purua May 4 for two weeks of rest; may then go to Washington for brief stay.
