Austro-German trade agreement concluded and signed Jan. 26; some increase in trade expected though benefits meager for both countries; Germany would like to import all of Austria's surplus foodstuffs, but unwilling or unable to set aside sufficient exchange to pay for it; wishes to make payments in coal and manufactured goods; Austria willing to accept coal, but except for electrical equipment wants no German manufactured articles; German industry subsidized by government and Austrian manufacturers could not compete; agreement includes provision for exchange of films and for payment of arrears due Austrian authors for works published in Germany; Austrian films and books more popular in Germany than German films and books are in Austria.
