Description
Scheffer called on Messersmith today; had known Scheffer in Berlin, 1929-1933, but not intimately; Scheffer informed him that he is now correspondent for the Berlin Tageblatt and would be working mostly in Washington and New York; spoke in vague terms of public sentiment in U.S. and tried to get information from Messersmith, who refused to be drawn out; Dr. Scheffer became somewhat offensive before leaving; Messersmith believes him to be intelligent and thinks his activities in the U.S. should be watched.
