| Description | No doubt that the Inter-American Conference on Problems of War and Peace held in Mexico City the most fruitful such meeting ever held; spirit of all the delegations was excellent and they came with sincere desire to reach constructive solutions; believes main reason for this atmosphere is the fear of Soviet Russia, and to a lesser extent, Britain, and realization U.S. the only power other American countries can depend on to give fair treatment to small states; size of American delegation might have appalled friends in other American republics, but instead it made them realize importance U.S. attached to meeting; was a good idea to have Government Departments represented in delegation as well as representatives of labor, agriculture, and business; meetings were open and Soviet Chargé, Canadian, British and Chinese Ambassadors were given access to sessions; emphasized to them that meeting was not for purpose of forming a bloc, but for finding ways of increasing political and economic stability of American republics. | en_US |
