Abstract
Description
Original in Sypherd Papers. Delighted to receive picture of Sypherd in his garden; Sypherd must be as good gardener as he is a scholar; will be 70 in October and working hard as ever except on weekends which are spent at house in Cuernavaca; usually take two or three couples along; was accompanied on one of trips north by Marion [Mrs. Messersmith]; both had thorough going over by doctors in New York; Marion well; doctor called Messersmith "museum piece", which was not flattering, but well meant; has to go back later in year for secondary repair jobs, but nothing serious; continuing to enjoy life here; work interesting but difficult; not only has to fight prejudice against private enterprise, but also prejudice against foreign owned company; since Sypherd cannot be persuaded to pay visit to Mexico, hopes to see him in Newark later in year..
