Abstract
Description
[Ezequiel] Padilla leaving Monday Mar. 23 for Washington; he asked that Department be informed that he expects to arrive Mar. 30; Padilla's baby son born last night and everything went well so that he leaves with load off his mind; Department may wish to send word to border officials asking that he be shown every courtesy; will let U.S. Consul in Laredo know which train he will be on; his plans are to go first to Raleigh to see [Josephus] Daniels and from there to Washington; has worked long hours in month since arrival in Mexico and still has trouble adjusting to altitude; thinks weekend in Cuernavaca will be helpful; expects to go down this evening and return early Monday; was invited by President [Avila Camacho] to play golf with him there Saturday and Sunday; should not miss this first opportunity for intimate contact with him; one of best things that can be done during Padilla's visit to Washington is to strengthen his conviction that the allies will win war, and to give him as much information as possible to back up confidence; has seen Padilla almost daily since arrival in Mexico but very quickly established rapport with him.
