Description
Acknowledges Department's telegram relative to Argentine question; Department expresses interest in exchange of views with [Ezequiel] Padilla; called on Padilla and gave him substance of telegram; according to statements from Ambassador [Norman] Armour, Mexican Ambassador to Argentina, [Dario] Ojeda, not correctly reporting attitude of Mexican Government; as instructed by Department, informed Padilla, who showed concern, and said he would look into matter; in official communication from Department to chiefs of mission in other American republics it was stated that U.S., Great Britain, and Brazil giving intense study to Argentine question and are in accord on policy of nonrecognition; statement may leave wrong impression; no country studying Argentine problem more intensely than Mexico and views of Mexican Government on recognition are same as those of U.S., whatever may be attitude of Mexican Ambassador to Argentina.
