DescriptionComments on efforts of Hitler regime to control the Church; Lutheran Church partially subsidized by Government and could be more easily controlled than the Catholic; apart from determination to control, Hitler regime had their eyes on valuable church properties such as convents and monasteries which they wanted to use for Party purposes; idea sprang up that there should be some new arrangement between Hitler regime and the Vatican; Vatican seemed receptive to idea and mission was sent to Rome to sign agreement; Catholics, both clerical and lay, not inclined to the agreement as they felt Hitler would not respect any agreement; about three months after agreement was signed a convent was closed in southern Germany on trumped up charges and hundreds of nuns were turned out with no place to go.en_US
