Distressed to hear of Carol's difficulties; cannot understand why governments of U.S., Great Britain, France and Portugal are against Carol's return to Europe; knows Carol has not engaged in political activity, and understands his desire to live in his own home in France; will be in Washington within next month and will see what can be done; Marian well, but her mother, Mrs. Mustard, is worse and suffers terribly; stays busy; work not decreasing in volume, but with end of war it is changing somewhat in character; grieved to hear Madame Lupescu's health no better.
