Abstract

Description

Cannot remember date of luncheon given by [American] Chamber of Commerce in Berlin; perhaps Mr. [Arthur] Dunning, [Secretary], might supply membership list; treasurer has no outside means but depends on dues paid by members of Luncheon Club of the Chamber of Commerce after expenses have been paid; Nazi visitors used Chamber for propaganda purposes; they objected to sitting with Jewish members and requested Dunning to seat them at separate tables; among speakers at luncheon was Prof. [Jay B.] Nash of New York Univ., who had written[anti-Jewish books]; Dr. Ernst Hanfstaengl, an old acquaintance introduced him to some of his Nazi friends, and they, not knowing he was Jewish, tried to use him; Nazis "bought" American magazines to spread their propaganda; Frau von Hausberger, an American citizen who was Dr. Hanfstaengl's former secretary, now with George Havell, a magazine publisher in New York who needed capital.
