"The Paul R. Jones Lecture is an annual event sponsored by the Paul R. Jones Initiative under the auspices of the Interdisciplinary Humanities Research Center. Funded by the College of Arts and Sciences, the Initiative and annual lecture honor the late art collector, Paul. R. Jones, and his gift of African American art to the University of Delaware. In this lecture, scholar and artist Deborah Willis discusses research for The Black Civil War Soldier : A Visual History of Conflict and Citizenship (2021). Willis presents a selection of contemporary photo-based art works, including some of her own. Willis is introduced by Colette Gaiter, Professor of Africana Studies and Art & Design. Discussion following the lecture is moderated by Dr. Laura E. Helton, Assistant Professor of English and History.
