Abstract
Description
Original in Sypherd Papers. Good of Sypherd to be willing to read manuscript; has now dictated about 900 typewritten pages and thinks there will be about 400 more; it will make two good-sized volumes altogether; had intended to send Sypherd what was already written, but plans now somewhat upset; has been having severe sinus headaches lately and now having trouble with wisdom tooth which will probably required dental surgery; would rather wait and have it done in New York, but may have to go earlier than planned; as plans are now will leave with Marion [Mrs. Messersmith] by plane on May 17 for Washington and go from there by train to Wilmington and stay for some days there with Caleb and Helene [Layton]; hopes to see Sypherd on Monday or Tuesday of following week; understands why Sypherd cannot have overnight guests; glad he has someone living with him; wouldn't think of burdening Bess [Mrs. J. P. Wright] but hopes to see her while in Newark; has some ideas on Sypherd's book which can be discussed in person; regarding Messersmith's manuscript, has decided it best not to sent it by mail; good friend Sam Katz going north next week on business and will arrange to have copy of material which is ready delivered to Sypherd; Sypherd will understand this is a first draft and has not been corrected - except for spelling - or polished; autograph P.S. states tooth bad; leaving for New York Apr. 28; will be in touch with Sypherd by telephone from New York.
