Description
This volume presents highlights of the Global Conference and summaries of discussions related to the attainment of major WSSD and MDG ocean goals, e.g.: achieving ecosystem-based and integrated coastal and ocean management; arresting declines in fisheries; advancing the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-Based Activities; reducing poverty in Africa and in other developing areas; implementing the Mauritius Strategy for the sustainable development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS); establishing networks of marine protected
areas; and developing a global marine assessment. Also presented in this volume are highlights of conference discussions of the Tsunami tragedy.
