[page 1] Wite house landen [White House Landing] Va June th 3 1864 Dear fother I take this opertunity to let you no that I am well at present and hope these fiew lines may find you all the same I received your letter yesterday wich was dated May 30th and was glad to hear once more that you were all well [deleted text] I hante hurd eny thing from Enos yet onley wat some of his company sais they say that he was eather killed or wounded close to the rebbel batry and it was sirten death to go their after the dead and wounded I was out at eleven Oclock at night after the battl to see if his body was on the field but I culdent get up to [page 2] Whare they say he fell we left Butlers armey and on our way to Grants armey now I saw Pat Dun and Lewis Walters yesturday Pat looks well he started for the front this morning he is driveing team now eavrey body seams to think that Richmond is ours this time or at least all of the solders thinks so we are driveing old Johney reb from eavry point and the men is in the bigest of spirits tell the home [rrbs] rebs to look out or they will get hell yet for I think that the solders will be home next fall acording to the way things is goen on now but their is a power of us got to fall before that time but while they are shoten us we are playing the same game not that I want to brag on our [page 3] Rigment but I must tell you that they all stand up and fight like men and we are called the number ones by the other men down here and I am proud of the name we have gained but we have lost a power of brave men we onley have about four hundred and fifty or five hundred men for duty out of a thousand and ten wich we had when we left Fernandina company F veterns sufered severley out of forty two twenty one was killed and wounded but you may bet that we will make the old Joneys pay dearley for this if we ever get the advantage of them I must stop writing for this time I wish that you would send mee a invelop and sheat of paper in each letter [page 4] For I have none and no way of geting eny onley as I can get a sheat from some of the boys we are in the eighteenth core now I must close no more Co D 97 Regt Pa. 3rd Brigade 3rd Divison 18th Armey Corps Via Fortress Monroe G.
