[page 1] 97th. Regt. P. Vols. Frunt of Petersburg Virginia July 27th 1864. Dear Sir. I am sorry to have to inform you of your son George geting wounded yesterday July the 26th. him and I was [was] walking together when he got wounded and I went to the hospitable with him and saw his wound dressed it was not dangours I dont think. and when I left him he was in good spirits and wished me to write to you. I herd from him to day. he was rather better and had gon to Fort Monroe Virginia. he will be taken good care of thare-- for thair is some more of our company wounded thair and they speek well of the hospitable and of the care that is taken of them. [page 2] I think I have told you all that I need at presant. for I am in hopes that you will be able to here from him self before long.
